Heading South For The Winter
One of the first harbingers of impending winter is the sound of geese heading south for the duration. It is a sound that is of equal measure haunting, sad and yet deeply moving. Very soon cold weather will be here, bringing snow to the Highlands.
Glen Shiel

The A87 cuts obliquely through this most beautiful of Glens, lying south east of Loch Duich, famous as the setting of Eilean Donan Castle. Yet far from the road rise high ridges, lofty mountains, hidden straths and lonely lochans - perfect for secretive red deer. Purple heather hugs the contours of the hills, creating a lovely backdrop to the waterfall racing down a dark chasm.

Moidart; A Highland Loch

As a painter and a walker, I absolutely love the wild terrain of Moidart, east of Ardnamurchan, west of Sunart and Loch Shiel. The yellow sky is threatning a downpour, rain never far away in the Highlands.

Loch Arklet, Sunset

This beautiful mountain range situated Northwest of Loch Lomond is best seen on a glowing evening. It is an area of outstanding interest to hillwalkers and all lovers of the outdoor life, a real magnet for landscape artists and photographers alike.

Highland Retreat

Mighty crags falling sheer to the edge of a sea-loch dwarf two small sailing craft. This is a hidden stretch of the Highlands on a rare calm day with the water quiet and reflective, a perfect early autumn evening.

Lochan Nam Breac

This remote beautiful Lochan lies due west of Loch Quoich, fed by Allt Lochan na Cruadhach.
Beyond lies Sgurr na Ciche (1,040m). This is a magnificent ramblers paradise, with high hills and airy ridge walks, a place where time seems irrelevant, a land to explore and drink up the mountain air and water. This is - if one is fortunate - a calm and reflective Highland setting of incredible depth.

A Corner Of Glencoe,
With Red Deer

A hidden pass in Glencoe, with water cascading down every crag, suddenly alive with a small herd of Red Deer. It is Autumn, almost time to begin the rut, when the strongest stags roar their defiance to their rivals, in order to command their own personal harems. Soon their antlers will achieve their greatest size and strength for the year.

Sgurr Thuilm

High on the remote west flank of this awe-inspiring mountain blazes a sun-filled shallow corrie, breathtakingly beautiful. This is a special place, magnificent in every way, filling ones senses with a broadness, an open-ness of mind and heart. The ridges soaring to the hidden depths of the Loch, and mist clinging to remote crags and rockfaces just resonate to anyone with a love of high places.
